8 Things To Include In Your Electrical Upgrade
The lights start to flicker. You blow circuits more often than not. Every time you plug into certain outlets, the plug wiggles out almost as fast.
These are all signs of potential problems with your electrical system. They are also signs its to for an electrical upgrade.
Each year, around 51,000 fires are caused by residential electrical systems. Just like every system installed in your home, your electrical system wasn’t designed to last for decades. At some point, you will have to make an electrical upgrade. And when you do, it’s difficult to know where to start.
Luckily, one of our electrical contractors can help you put a plan in place. It starts by rewiring your home. But it should also include upgraded features that make modern living a little easier. Include things like:
Bedside lighting – Have you ever been annoyed by having the light switch too far away from your bed? Just when you’re comfy and warm after reading in bed, why get up to turn out the lights? A bedside switch makes it easy to control all the lighting in your bedroom from one or both sides of the bed. You can even include a dimmer switch to control the lighting, making it brighter for reading, and softer for when anything but reading is on your mind.
USB outlets – Where would USB chargers come in handy throughout your home? They can easily be incorporated into your outlets. Consider placing them in the kitchen, your home office, maybe even beside your bed. These handy little features will ensure you’re well connected everywhere in your home.
Inside drawers – Instead of having all of your appliances sitting on countertops, why not tuck some of them away in drawers? Placing electrical outlets inside bathroom vanities can keep toothbrushes, shavers, and hair dryers out of sight. Putting them in kitchen drawers and cabinets can give you valuable counter space back to do what you do best.
Stair lighting – At a minimum, include light switches at both the top and bottom of every staircase in your home. Consider increasing your brightness by adding small lights by each step. This will make your stairs safer for every member of the family, and can add ambiance as well.
Artwork – Take the time to consider where your artwork will be. Why not add spotlights to highlight your best pieces? Also, consider moving light switches and outlets so they won’t get in the way of your best wall space.
Focus on bathroom lighting – Have you ever stood at a mirror where the light shines from above? Not a very flattering look. The best place to put lighting is along both sides of the mirror, as well as slightly above the mirror.
Don’t forget outside – Curb appeal is everything when you drive up to your home. Safety is equally important. Take a walk outside after dark and consider the most important places to shine some light.
Ceiling fans – You’ll be surprised at the ceiling fans on the market today. These aren’t your parent’s ceiling fans. You’ll find high-end fixtures that add personality to any room. They’ll help keep you cool in the summer, can make your heating more even in the winter, and the light kits can help supply light throughout any room. You can also select a smart ceiling fan to integrate it into your home’s heating and cooling system.
