What Uses The Most Water In Your Home Each Day?

Water, water, everywhere. When you look at the earth as a whole, there seems to be an abundance of water. Even right here in Atlanta, our thirty-year average for rainfall is right around 50 inches per year.

All you have to do is turn on your tap, and you’ll have an abundant supply of fresh water, whenever you need it. But have you ever stopped to think about what uses the most water in our homes each day?

What Uses The Most Water In Your Home Each Day?The most recent study from the Water Research Foundation found that:

  • Toilet flushing is the largest indoor use of water in single-family residential locations.
  • After toilet flushing, the biggest water wasters include faucets, showers, clothes washers, leaks, bathtubs, other indoor uses, and dishwashers.
  • Household hot water use accounted for 33 percent of total water used.

As a collective, we use about 138 gallons of water per day at home. The best way to save water is to gain a better understanding of where you use water the most. You can do that by studying your water bill and using it to determine how much water you could save by making improvements in and around your home.

One of the easiest changes you can make is by switching to WaterSense labeled products. The EPA has a full list you can download and take with you as you shop. Or do a little research online before you finalize your decision.

If it uses water, you can find the WaterSense label. Inside and outside, residential and commercial products all can be updated to help save water whenever possible.
