Caring for Your HVAC System This Fall
If you’re looking for a way to extend the life of your commercial HVAC system, regular maintenance should be high on your list. You don’t want to leave the system sitting all winter without properly preparing it. The following are some preventative maintenance tips to handle this fall.
Replace the Filters
A clean filter is going to promote a clean environment, but it also keeps the HVAC system working more efficiently. Be sure to change the filters this fall and continue to change them on a regular basis, we recommend every three months. While you are replacing the filters, take a look at your vents and ducts to check if they need to be cleaned as well.
Review the Thermostat
If you want your HVAC system to work properly, you have to have a well-functioning thermostat. Check to see if it responds to changes and be sure it reads the temperature accurately.
Clear the Debris
You don’t want any debris built up around the HVAC unit. It’s obvious you should leave the area free of large items, but even dirt and dust could lessen the efficiency of your unit. Check for grass clippings, twigs, and leaves, in addition to larger items like buckets or boxes. Most of this debris can be washed away with a hose, but be sure to turn your system off before you spray it down.
Check All Components
While it’s easy to take a look at the bigger parts of your HVAC system, it’s equally important to look at some of the smaller parts. This includes safety controls, fans, ducts, blower motors, ignition systems, and more. Look for anything that doesn’t seem to be working properly or efficiently.
