Fernbank Science Center

The Fernbank Science Center is located in Atlanta, Georgia. While it is mostly geared towards school groups, the Fernbank planetarium is also open to the public. Visitors can purchase a stargazer card, which allows them to see an eighth show for free after seeing seven. The shows usually last about 30 minutes, and it is recommended that you visit the restroom before the show. The show hours vary throughout the year, and some of the exhibits are closed on certain holidays.

The Fernbank Science Center is free to enter and features a 9,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 500-seat planetarium, an observatory, two electron microscopes, and a library. There is also a distance learning studio on site. The center also includes a 65-acre forest that is used for educational programming. In addition to the exhibit hall, visitors can explore the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and explore the grounds.

The Fernbank Science Center also features live animals. In addition to reptiles, amphibians, and other creatures, visitors can also watch a movie. For those interested in astronomy, the Fernbank Observatory features a 0.9-meter (36-inch) Cassegrain reflector inside a 10-meter (30-foot) dome. It’s the largest telescope dedicated to education in the Southeastern United States. The planetarium offers free public viewing on Thursday and Friday evenings. Young children and adults can take advantage of the late evenings and weekend shows. The astronomer is also available for inter-acting with students.
